Welcome to the semifinals of the snow foam cup, last time out Solution61 made it through against Meguiars ultimate snow foam to get here and 26JPN saw its way past Pyramid. The winner today then will book a place in the Final and will then enter the elite group of products in my winner’s circle and be the benchmark against any future purchases.
In this whole tournament I will apply one to half a car rinse the lance out then apply the second to the other half while keeping a close eye on performance.
I have calculated cost based on price per 500ml of solution mixed at recommended dilution. I’ve chosen 500ml as half a lance full is usually more than enough to do a large car and a simple amount to dilute.
Solution61 is the most expensive-
Purchase price £8 for 500ml
Dilution ratio 1:4
£1.60 per use!
26JPN is better value due to its higher concentration and being available in a larger bottle can save even more-
Purchase price £10 for 500ml (£16 for 1L)
Dilution ratio 1:9
£1 per use! (80p from 1L bottle)
1-0 to 26JPN from this category.
So there are conflicting views on if a foam should stick or run off. Personally I prefer it to stick and hang around as long as possible to soften any dirt below which will then come off when rinsed. While some prefer it to slowly run off dragging dirt with it. Long dwelling foam is also great to layer over fallout remover on wheels or citrus pre wash products on the body work allowing them to work away for much longer so with that being my preference I’ll be scoring the longest dwelling as a winner of this category. Based on the last round performance from these two I expected 26JPN to be noticeably thicker and hang around longer here but this time they were almost inseparable both applied a thinner film and mostly run off by 5mins as you can see in the photos below. I can’t pick a winner so a point each 2-1 to 26JPN
I have no scientific way of quantifying this but I’ll take a swipe before and after using the snow foams with a cotton wool pad to compare how much grime they have shifted, I will do this in a similar position on each side of car and swipe the same length and pressure as identically as I can for a visual guide, also add my own opinion into the mix but there is so many variables this is no exact science. The car was very dirty this week as you can see from the before swabs which highlights that both did a good job of removing the bulk of the dirt before contact wash. Again I really can’t separate them as they done the job but there was a little dirt left on both so another point each here 26JPN 3-2
Joy to use
This section considers how easy they rinse off, how satisfying the foam looks and any smells or other distinctive features that make them more pleasant to use. Solution61 does have a nice fresh lemon smell that wafts around which is nice and keep in mind they have a couple of other foams to choose from too that I am yet to try so definitely a brand worth checking out, 26JPN though I have had feedback from others who really like their branding and the pop cap is a nice touch too. Another round then where both have good features and I can’t pick one over the other so final score 4-3 to 26JPN.
A very close round with both performing well for wax safe snowfoams but ultimately the winning factor was the cost per wash swinging it in favour of 26JPN. So that is our first confirmed finalist. Next time out is Juga vs GO to find out which will be joining them to fight for the cup!
